Boeckman Bridge to Open - FINALLY!

Tomorrow from 10 AM to 4PM  and Sunday from 1 PM - 3 PM the City of Wilsonville Celebrates the opening of the Boeckman Road  extension and bridge. Beginning with a one mile fun run, and followed by Opening ceremonies, a variety of family-friendly activities will take place.  Live music will be performed by Acoustic Amour - face painters, balloon artists, and food booths will be present. 

Expert geologist Richard Waitt will give a presentation on the impact of the Missoula ice Age Floods on the local area. (Hence the name for the event - Missoula Palooza)

Sunday’s main event is a bike rodeo.

Robotics Mentor Needed For Middle Schoolers

The Wood Middle School robotics team is looking for a new coach to mentor during the 2008-9 season and to take over the team in the 2009-10 season. The team competes in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), http://usfirst.org/, a high school robotics competition that allows middle school students. The well-regarded Wilsonville High School robotics team competes in FIRST’s
FRC competition.

Coaching a team requires a time commitment from October through March. Parents of current sixth graders with an interest
in robotics are encouraged to consider the position. The 2007-8 team had five seventh graders and two sixth graders. There is room for three more students on the team in the 2008-9 season.

Art In the Park Kicks off Summer In W-ville

Wilsonville Festival For the Arts kicks off summer this weekend at the park near the Visitor’s Center/Chamber of Commerce building.  A few things for Saturday morning are not on the list below -

  • 9AM  Professional Chalk Artists will lead a workshiop for the artists
  • 10:00-10:30  A Festival Parade opens the festival with a stiltwalker and costumed puppeteer from the Dragon Puppet Theater.  ALL ARE WELCOME to JOIN the parade.  You are invited to wear costumes or wave scarves.  Line-up time is 9:45 at the Wilsonville Chamber of commerce Building.  The parade will weave through the 80 visual artist booths, accompanied by Tanuki Taiko Drums and ends at the stage. 

A Student Art Gallery showcases student artwork from all the district schools.  It is the largest tent in the festival.

Choose Your Movie Night for Teens at the Library Friday

The Wilsonville library invites local teens to come hang out at the library Friday May 30 from 6:30 - 9 pm and see how some of your favorite books and comics have been adapted for the big screen.  There will be free snacks and after-hours check-out in the library.  For more information, visit the library website.

Parent Night for Incoming 6th Graders

All parents of incoming sixth graders are invited to a social and information session at Wood Middle School on Tuesday, May 27, in the Wood Commons. The evening begins with cookies and coffee, and an opportunity to meet PTSA members and school staff at 6:30 pm. At 7:00 pm, teachers and administrators will talk about the program, curriculum, school day, and
transition to middle school. There will also be guided tours.

Volleyball for Grade 4 & 5 Girls Available

Girls entering 4th and 5th grade in the fall of 2008 are invited to register for West Linn Wilsonville Youth Volleyball. The season runs from September through first/second weekend in November.

Three Rivers Charter School Information

If you are interested in enrolling your child or children at Three Rivers Charter School for the 2008-2009 school year,
your family is invited to attend one of the upcoming open house and informational meetings. Registration cards will be
available at the following meetings:

  •     May 6 and May 22 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Three Rivers Charter School
  •     May 14 from 6:30- 7:30 p.m. at Wilsonville Public Library

Representatives will be presenting information about Three Rivers Charter School as well as answering any questions about our
program. In addition, current parents and students will be speaking about their own experience with our school. They hope to provide answers to all of your questions and inform interested families of the options available within the West Linn-Wilsonville school district.
TRCS public lottery for the 2008-2009 school year will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 4:00 pm at Three Rivers Charter School.

Community Safety for Middle School Students

A Presentation for Parents by Peter McDougal and Jim Keen Tuesday, April 29 7:00 PM  at the Wood MS Library.

Peter McDougal,the assistant principal at Wood, and Jim Keen, Clackamas County Deputy and our School Resource Officer,
will talk about how Wood MS and our SRO work together. They will provide information about safety that is especially important to think about as the parents of middle school students.

Questions and discussion are encouraged and of course we’ll have cookies and coffee.
