Art In the Park Kicks off Summer In W-ville
Wilsonville Festival For the Arts kicks off summer this weekend at the park near the Visitor’s Center/Chamber of Commerce building. A few things for Saturday morning are not on the list below -
- 9AM Professional Chalk Artists will lead a workshiop for the artists
- 10:00-10:30 A Festival Parade opens the festival with a stiltwalker and costumed puppeteer from the Dragon Puppet Theater. ALL ARE WELCOME to JOIN the parade. You are invited to wear costumes or wave scarves. Line-up time is 9:45 at the Wilsonville Chamber of commerce Building. The parade will weave through the 80 visual artist booths, accompanied by Tanuki Taiko Drums and ends at the stage.
A Student Art Gallery showcases student artwork from all the district schools. It is the largest tent in the festival.

Saturday, May 31st
10:00 Tanuki Taiko Japanese Drums- Tanuki Taiko (Mischievous Badger) is the teenage group of the professional Taiko Drums. A great beginning to the festival and wake-u for the community to join us.!
10:30 Alexx Carnathan - An incredibly talented you pianist. Alexx first performed for the
Wilsonville Festisval of Arts when she was 10. Now a Wilsonville High School jujnior, she returns to play for us again.
11:30 Tai Chi demonstration - an interactive demonstration featuring Wilsonville and Milwauki
students of James Lusk. He will demonstrate and "empty hand" and Sword Dance. (also on
Sunday.
12:00 Innovative Dance Studio - The studio;s performing company of sutdents 8 and oldlelr,
will present dances in ta, jazz, lyrical jazz and hiphop. The studio is a 10 year resident of
Wilsonville.
1:00 Studio 909 - This grou is composed of a family that makes msuic together. Mellow jazz is their sound; Summertime, Corcovado, and Georgia are standards.
2:30 Rising Violette- Naomi LaViolette, a Wilsonville resident, will perform with Wendy Goodwin, violinist. They provide an evocative fusion of beauty and spunk, with a unique blend of
jazz, acoustic, classical and American music.
4:00 Mary Flower -working in intricately syncopated fingerpicking style on her bluesy slide
guitar, she has earned raves from music criticsfor her clear vocals and guitar mastery. We are in for a treat!
5:00 Gradience- Definately NOt your normal band. ‘Folk-punk? Indyfusion? It’s not easy to label this group, but its clear they are having a good time…and you will too.
Sunday June 1st Schedule
10:00 John Manns- Inspired by the grancd scale of the Northwest, John’s folksongs and stories paint images of the big pictures of life, love, nature and spirituality.
11:00 River City Cloggers - returing to the Festival this year, these cloggers are filled with energy and pizazz. What a sound they make on a wood stage. !
11:30 Tai Chi ( see description for Saturday)
12:30 Bug Toast - "Intelligent pop with a world music influence", says the Oregonian.
This 5-piece vband offers richly textured, eclectic compostions.
2:00 Philopatria - Meanding love of country–Greece and the United Stages - this youthful group has been dancing togetehr for over 5 years. Dressed in tradtional Macedonian costumes , they present quite a show.
2:30 John Manns performs again
3:45 Douglas Detrick Quintet - Doug graduated from West Linn High School and is a University of Oregon grad. He writes much of the music performed by this jazz ensemble.
