Sheriff’s Office Recruiting Students
Want a first-hand look at the inner workings of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office? Sheriff Craig Roberts is looking for citizens to attend CCSO’s next CitizensInformational Sheriff’s Academy (CISA).
During the Academy’s intensive eight-week course, 20 citizens from diverse backgrounds listen to presentations, take tours, and participate in intense driving and combat simulations to gain a deeper appreciation of the challenges and decisions faced daily by Sheriff’s Office personnel.
Academy students learn about dozens of police-related subjects, though they’re not prepared for (or expected to) do any police work.
Attendees must be 18 or older, approved for attendance by the Sheriff or his designee, and (if possible) be Clackamas County residents. The application process includes a background check, confirmation of driver’s-license status, and review and approval. Attendees must also sign liability waivers, and will be encouraged to ride along with a member of the Sheriff’s Office during the Academy.
The next CISA starts April 3, 2008, and consists of nine weekly evening classes. Weeknight classes are held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (with one of the evening classes reserved for graduation). Students must also attend two full Saturdays of instruction and "hands-on" exercises.
